Have you ever started talking to someone on a Zoom call when they haven’t yet connected? I doubt it. But do we sometimes start the presentation when the audience isn’t ready to take it in? Yes, unfortunately this happens a lot. Until the audience is paying attention, we can’t begin sharing ideas. Then what should we do to get people «connected to the call»?
Step 1 — Look at everyone

Step 2 — Acknowledge each person

Step 3 — The noise has stopped. Now, and only now can you begin

Bonus tip
If you’ve established eye contact and achieved full attention in the beginning this way, the audience now’ve learned that you only speak when they are silent. The moment the chatter comes back, you may use the Resting Face technique to get the attention back without any conflict. Read how I do it in this short article.
